Harm reduction therapy for substance use issues is an evidence-based approach to working with substance users and their families. Today you are one step closer to a new you where you feel empowered and on a positive path to growth, well-being and empowerment over your substance use.
As a harm reduction therapist with a cognitive-behavioral and person-centered focus, my goal is to help you make healthy decisions about substance use and other health-threatening habits, and move toward a more satisfying and healthy life. My approach focuses on helping you make use of the personal strengths and resources you already have to make healthy choices in your life. I'll meet you where you're at, work with you on the issues that are most important to you, and provide you with additional skills to cope with situations that you may now cope with through health-threatening behaviors like excessive drug use, drinking, gambling or other potentially harmful habits. My approach is gradualist, and I will not pressure you to move faster than you are willing to move toward making behavior changes.
When we work together you will feel (and be) respected as a person who has autonomy and control over your own decisions. No one else understands your life, your struggles, or your aspirations better than you. I will bring to our meetings my expertise on ways in which others have made healthy choices and changes. I will never tell you that there is only one way to address an issue. I'll be a resource, not a parent. Ultimately, all decisions about change are yours.
I also work with families of people who are using alcohol, drugs, or gambling in harmful ways to help you develop more effective ways of interacting with your loved one who is engaging in self-harming behavior. I will also show you ways to encourage positive decisions and behavior change in the loved one about whom you are concerned.
I use approaches that have solid research backing for their effectiveness, and will help you adapt them to your own specific needs, desires and aspirations in life.
